Men of Grace in Service to Church and  Community
Our Commitment to Outreach

The Men of Grace has been inexistence for almost 20 years and its purpose has always been its intent to live out its mission to volunteer for tasks inside the Cathedral, engage in projects in San Francisco neighborhoods, and participate in programs in the wider Bay Area community. The Men of Grace has committed to the following outreach opportunities:

The Bishop’s Ranch – Twice a year the Men of Grace are invited to be guests of the Ranch to trim and preserve the grape arbor that it constructed in 1989 and that has offered a shaded area to Ranch guests during the warm, sunny days of summer. The Men of Grace also performs landscaping and construction projects on the grounds, as well as maintains the Tree House it reconstructed in 1993 that is visited by hundreds of guests every year for quiet meditation.

Bayview Hunters Point Adult Day Health Center – Twice a year the Men of Grace go to this facility that has become our adopted Senior Center. At this place the elderly can come to spend the day socializing as well as taking advantage of professional services offered by the nursing and medical staff. The Men of Grace has committed to helping make this a comfortable and beautiful place for the center’s guests by landscaping the grounds as well as by performing light construction and painting tasks inside the facility.  The board of the Bayview Hunters Point Adult Day Health Center recently honored the Men of Grace at a recognition dinner acknowledging our 15 years of service and outreach to the Center that has made it a safer, better and more comfortable place for the seniors in that area of the City.

Toys for Tots – Every year at Christmas, the Men of Grace go on a shopping spree for toys in coordination with the Cathedral’s jail ministry.  The toys are then given to the children of parents, on the parent’s behalf, who are incarcerated in the San Francisco county jails.

Martin de Porres Hospitality House – This facility located on Potrero Avenue between 15th and 16th Streets is a warm wonderful community outreach that serves meals to the hungry. The Men of Grace help to serve breakfast at this place on the fourth Sunday morning of every month.

Habitat for Humanity – The Men of Grace Board has given its support to this project that is consistent with our mission statement to be in service to both Church and community. The Men of Grace are active participants with this non-profit organization dedicated to building low-income home ownership in the Bay Area. Over the years MOG has participated in three such buildings (one in the East Bay, two in San Francisco) and later this year we will be presented with a fourth opportunity. Grace Cathedral and the Men of Grace will join with Temple Emmanuel and the Muslim communities in an interfaith Habitat for Humanity project. month to help build a fourth Habitat for Humanity home in the Oceanview district of San Francisco. This project, in conjunction with the San Francisco Interfaith Council,
