This morning at the 8th Annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast The Bayview Mission received "Making a Difference" Award from The San Francisco Interfaith Council.

In recognition of the vital community building and enrichment efforts of many different faith organizations, and programs in the City of San Francisco, Bayview was among the 12 programs singled out this year as an effort that is truly "Making A Difference" in the City of San Francisco. San Francisco Supervisor Sophie Maxwell presented the award on behalf of the Interfaith Council. The award citation reads:

With thanksgiving, the San Francisco Interfaith Council recognizes Bayview Mission, a joint program of Grace Cathedral and Episcopal Diocese of California for your outstanding work in the community: Bayview Mission is a special outreach program located in the Bayview District that provides families with enrichment and support. Grocery bags are given each week to 150 families. In addition there are baby bags containing baby supplies, diapers, and clothing, and children bags containing school supplies, globes, and socks that are distributed throughout the community. The mission also runs a library of 2,000 children books, and each week gives 50 books to participating children to bring home. There is a garden where children raise vegetables to bring home, and special events that enrich the lives of children and families in the neighborhood.

Supervisor Maxwell was delighted and perhaps a little surprised to recognize a neighbor when The Reverend Nina Pickerrell came forward to receive the award in the presence of Mayor Gavin Newsom, and about 200 city government, civic, and faith leaders. Congratulations to you Nina, your family, friends, neighbors, volunteers, and sponsors, all who make this faithful life-affirming effort move forward.
